11 years ago, I was a college sophomore. I somehow had it in my head I was going to be a comic book artist. I think my friends thought I was crazy. my professors thought it a near impossible dream. My parents were probably worried I would be penniless and living in the basement when I was 30. But, not only did I say I had the lofty goal of being a professional comic artist, I also tacked onto that an even tougher obstacle. I wanted to be on Wizards top 10 artists list before I was 30.
So here I am, 29, with no big releases until the fall and my 30th birthday is coming up on May 20th. I figured I could live without that goal being met.
Flash forward to today. I just received a tweet from Iron Fist scribe, Matt Fraction, that I had rounded out Wizards top 10 list in their big 200th issue. WOW! Only 8 days shy of my 30th birthday goal.
Being on the top 10 isn't as big a deal to my now as it was 12 years ago. Cool, yes. I am very excited, but to me this is something a bit bigger than being in some magazine. It's another example of how when I set my mind on something it happens. This kind of thing happens to me all the time. It's further confirmation to me that there is something larger out there than myself. Something transcendental that one day I hope to fully understand.
Anyways, I'm in the Wizard #200 issue that is on stands now.
Cheers!
Mitch
