Artist's Comments

Another one of my pages from Captain America issue 600.

This was my first and last attempt at an all digital page. I pencilled, inked and colored this one entirely on my Cintiq. Iv'e since abandoned the cintiq for the inking step, as it was too time consuming and a little counterintuitive.

Some video footage of the digital inking process can be found here: [link]

wow that is really cool

The first frame is just brilliant! The way you've captured the action makes me visualize it as a super slo-mo action scene!

What problems did you have per se,when you inked
digitally? What do you mean by counterintuitive? Is it because of the ctrl+z?

Thanks!

I got waaayy too wrapped up in the detail because I could zoom in so much. Also, I kept trying to re-create actual inks and paper texture. I thought it was a bit redundant when I could actually use ink and paper!

I still do all digital sequential work, but it has a different look rather than trying to recreate physical media. You can see examples of that process in my creator owned webcomic, The Futurists.

Zooming, a blessing and a curse! :)

i started reading this issue last night. I say started cause its SO DAMN LONG.
This page really stood out in the comic, each panel feels like a freeze frame of a movie - very dynamic, and i cant help making the sound effects when im looking through them :D
Awesome work as always

Damn, Mitch. This is tops, a standout from even your already-great work.

You have such an eye for the cinematic. I very much love the contrast in color-range temperatures from panel to panel.
